UKRAINE, Uman, 2008/09..One of the most intensive moments of Rosh Hashanah takes place during "Tashlich" or "casting off'", when thousands of Hasidic pilgrims gather around a lake to symbolically "cast their sins into the sea." The Hasidic tradition, founded in the 18th century in Belarus and Ukraine, places special emphasis on joyous communion with God. The singing and dancing give Uman a festive air. .© Cyril Horiszny / EST&OST
