On April 26, 1986, reactor number four of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded. Shortly after a highly radioactive cloud covered large parts of Belarus and Ukraine. Thousands of people sacrified their lives attempting to quench the atomic fire. Hundreds of thousands of so-called liquidators fought the consequences of the accident. Around Chernobyl an exclusion zone was created, which no unauthorized person may enter.

What does a place like this look like some 25 years later? Vaclav Vasku enters the forbidden zone searching for echoes of the tragedy. He tries to capture the stories of people involved in the accident and its aftermath. However, he is jinxed by the bizarreness of the panoptic world of Chernobyl. Just as the main character in Andrei Tarkovsky's film Stalker, he finally falls in love with The Zone.
