CZECH REPUBLIC: YELLOWCAKE FOR BIG BROTHER
The Soviet Union mobilized all its sattelite allies to produce the most precious of materials: Yellowcake. That is cleaned and concentrated uranium oxide, the basis for any nuclear arms programme. The environment and thousands of workers were contaminated. Today there are mainly the remnants of the nuclear arms race left. But one of the pits is still working: Rozna, Central Europe's last deep shaft uranium mining complex.
